Support the Helena Community Gardens – Public Hearing June 21st

Friends and Garden Club, Weel has just notified us that the Helena City Commission will be holding a public hearing on the proposed budget cuts, which includes eliminating funding for water development of community gardens in city parks, on Monday, June 21st.  We need your help to show the Commission that there is strong support to devote funding to the development of community gardens on city parkland.  Community gardens are a great way for people to save money by learning how to grow their own healthy food, and they lead to stronger, more connected neighborhoods.

Please attend the public hearing on Monday, June 21st, at 6 PM, to show support for community gardens, and, in addition, please consider writing to or calling your Commissioners. For your convenience we have created a list of talking points.  Feel free to utilize the list and to “personalize it.”  If you want more information or need help or support with making your voice heard, please contact Mary at WEEL, 495-0497 or 461-6266, or the co-chairs of the Growing Community Project Steering Committee, Jim Barngrover 442-3505 and Janet Hess-Herbert 449-3532.
