Virtual Tour Perennial Plant Symposium January 4th

The Helena Garden club will meet at Montana Wild, 2668 Broadway Avenue off Euclid Avenue/Highway 12 at 6:00 pm, Thursday, January 4th for our monthly meeting. This month Sue Leferink, Helena Garden Club President, will present a virtual slide show tour of the 2017 Denver Perennial Plant Symposium “How High Can You Steppe?” afterwards starting at 6:30 pm. The public is welcome to attend.


Learn how to Prune & Sculpt Conifers

Now is the time to get outdoors and prune your trees during their dormant period.  The club will meet at Montana Wild, 2668 Broadway Avenue at 6 pm, Thursday, February 4th  for our monthly meeting.  This will be followed by our program around 6:30 pm.  Our program in February will be on conifers.  If you want to learn how and when to prune conifers, feel free to join us for discussion and videos.  We will also talk about sculpting trees into living eco-art.  The public is welcome to attend.

Come Learn about Winterizing Trees October 1st

The Helena Garden Club is hosting a program on preparing our trees for winter at 6:30 on Thursday,   October 1st. The discussion will be led by Greg Chadwick from Chadwick Nursery. We will also be sharing some ideas to prevent desiccation and sun scald.  The monthly meeting will begin at 6 pm at Montana Wild, 2668 Broadway Avenue, followed by the program. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend. 

May Program and Meeting Monday

Our program this month is on “How to Eat Your Weeds” by Native Plant Society member, Pat Plantenburg.  We will take a stroll around Spring Meadow Lake and look at edible plants.  We hope you can make it this Monday, May 11th .  The meeting will start at 6 pm followed by the program at 6:30.  We will meet at Montana Wild, 2668 Broadwater Avenue.

April Program – Grafting Trees

On Monday April 13 at 6:00pm we will have a brief meeting followed by a program at 6:30 pm at Montana Wild, 2668 Broadwater Avenue. Brent Sarchet, our Lewis and Clark Extension agent, will teach us how to graft fruit trees and shrubs.  This is useful for proprogating plants that are not commercially available. Hope you can join us. The public is invited to attend as well. 

March 9th Meeting and Edible Forest Discussion

March is a bit blustery but is a great time to wrap up our summer garden plans before spring planting occurs.  This month we will meet at Montana Wild, 2668 Broadwater Avenue at 6 pm Monday, March 9th for a brief meeting followed by an interesting discussion at 6:30 on the Edible Forest project happening right here in Helena.  Check out the Inside Edge Design web site for some background information at   The public is welcome to attend.

Feb 9th Program and Meeting

Spring is around the corner. This month we will have a brief business meeting starting at 6 pm at Montana Wild followed by a fun interactive workshop by Claudia Strahn from “Alder and Ivy”, on Aroma Therapy. We will learn how to combine scents for our personal use and take home a completed project. The cost is $20.00 for materials and the class is limited to ten participants.
